Workshop on Cryptology

FrisiaCrypt 2022

September 25-28, 2022
Terschelling, The Netherlands

Workshop Program

IT Security plays a crucial role in everyday life and business. Virtually all modern security solutions are based on cryptographic primitives. Symmetric cryptography deals with the case that both the sender and the receiver of a message are using the same key and is highly relevant not only for academia, but also for industrial research and applications.

This workshop aims to provide a forum for well-established international researchers and experts as well as junior scientists to exchange and work on ideas and interests in open problems in symmetric cryptography. The workshop will consist of talks where new results and open problems are discussed, as well as research discussions to tackle the problems that the symmetric cryptographic community now faces.

The first FrisiaCrypt was organized in 2019, at the beautiful German Frisian island Borkum. It was organized by the University of Applied Sciences Emden-Leer and the Horst-Görtz-Institute, Ruhr-University Bochum. For the second edition of FrisiaCrypt in 2022, the Digital Security group, Radboud University takes over. This second edition will take place at Terschelling, The Netherlands, during September 25-28, 2022. It is by invitation only, free of charge including an attractive social program. For further information see the corresponding sections below.

WestCord ApartHotel Boschrijck,

Terschelling, The Netherlands

Terschelling is one of the five inhabited islands of The Netherlands, and one of the four islands belonging to the province of Friesland. It is known for its lighthouse, nature, seals, cranberries, and many other things.

The workshop will be held at the WestCord ApartHotel Boschrijck, a luxurious 4-star hotel in the woods of Terschelling. The hotel is close to the village, with various good restaurants. The hotel has a relaxed island feel and offers many possibilities.

Get Directions

Accommodation

The venue itself does not have appropriate accommodation, but you can stay at various hotels in the town of West-Terschelling. Alternatively, you can opt to stay in Midsland, another charming town that is an easy 8 minute bus ride from the venue.

Getting to Terschelling

The first step consists of getting to Harlingen Harbour. The harbour has a train station ("Harlingen Haven", see also link below), but you can also get there by other ways of transportation. For people arriving at Schiphol airport, organized transport may be more convenient.
Then, from Harlingen Harbour, you can take the boat to Terschelling. Boat tickets can be booked at below link.
Finally, at Terschelling, you can take a bus to your hotel, or you can rent a bike.
Traveling with public transport (i.e., train and bus) can be done using a Dutch OV-chipkaart. If you are just planning to have a train ride, a "Disposable chipkaart" (i.e., one-time use) may be best. If you plan to travel with train and bus, you might consider buying an "Anonymous OV-chipkaart", pre-load sufficient credit. Note, the OV chip card cannot be used for the boat trip.

Getting around

There are two very frequent bus lines, Line 1 from West-Terschelling (Harbour) to Oosterend (east end of the island), and Line 2 from West-Terschelling (Harbour) to West aan Zee (north beach of the island). Both buses pass the workshop venue. Alternatively, you can do it the Dutch way and rent a bike for your stay.
